KOBO Seattle is a distinctive art and design shop that seamlessly blends Japanese and Northwest craftsmanship. Established in 1995 by Binko Chiong-Bisbee and John Bisbee, KOBO offers a curated selection of simple, beautiful, and functional pieces for everyday living, sourced from artists and artisans in the Pacific Northwest, Japan, and beyond. The store's mission is to provide inspiration and a reminder of the human hands behind the creations that enhance our daily lives.
KOBO operates two locations in Seattle: one in the Capitol Hill neighborhood at 814 E Roy St, and another in the historic Japantown/International District at 604 S Jackson St. The Japantown location, known as KOBO at Higo, occupies the former Higo Variety Store, a Japanese five-and-dime run by the Murakami family for over 75 years. This space not only offers unique art and design pieces but also serves as a gallery hosting exhibitions, book readings, and special events throughout the year.
