The Leafy Branch is a Black woman-owned lifestyle shop based in Washington, D.C., founded by Chanel Gloster in 2020. The shop offers a curated selection of lush houseplants, custom-designed plant-themed merchandise, including apparel, home décor, and accessories. With a strong presence at local markets and pop-ups, such as Eastern Market and Greenfest in the Gardens, The Leafy Branch has become a community hub for plant enthusiasts in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.
Looking ahead, The Leafy Branch aims to open its first brick-and-mortar store in Washington, D.C., by Summer 2024. The envisioned space will not only showcase a diverse range of plants and products but also serve as a community center offering classes, event rentals, and pop-up opportunities for other small minority-owned businesses. Additionally, the shop plans to establish a nonprofit in honor of Chanel's late grandmother, a retired school teacher, to provide free books, art projects, and small plants to children, fostering early exposure to the benefits of plants and nature.
